The test for this list: dinner, a bed, a show and the tables, all reachable without a coat. Canada has only a handful; far more casinos simply have a motel across the lot. We ranked the first kind. Twelve properties got a stay score out of 100 — six weighted parts of a trip, access counting most — and the ten highest made the cut.
Marks reflect our editorial judgment of published information — the properties' own and that of named sources. No hotel paid for coverage, and no ranking position is for sale.
Planner's pick: River Rock Casino Resort
No car needed at either end of the trip: the Canada Line stops at the door, about about seven minutes to YVR and some eighteen to downtown Vancouver. Then there's the slide in the pool, the riverside marina and Gordon Ramsay Steak from the 2024 refit — our first suggestion for anyone flying in for a first casino-hotel weekend.
Niagara's big one, and our first choice. Plan on 372 rooms built around the view, a 200,000-sq-ft floor below them, two stages (5,000 seats and 1,559) and more than 20 places to eat. No other Canadian casino resort puts a waterfall outside the window at this size.
Book it forA two-night stay where you never move the car: view, show and tables all inside.
Skip it ifYou travel for buffets (none right now) or want under-12s in the pool unsupervised.
Spa first, casino second, Ottawa ten minutes over the bridge
Ten minutes' drive from downtown Ottawa, a five-star Hilton connects straight to a Loto-Québec casino between two lakes. Plan around the pools — heated, inside and out, all year — then Amerispa (17 rooms), the 1,100-seat theatre and a floor of 1,400-plus slots. For spa and casino under one roof, nothing in Canada beats it.
Book it forSpa weekends, and seeing Ottawa while sleeping on the Gatineau shore.
Skip it ifTeenagers in the party expect the show, a bar or the casino — every one is 18+.
Skip the rental car: River Rock sits beside Bridgeport station on the Canada Line — roughly seven minutes' ride to YVR, eighteen to downtown Vancouver. Inside: 396 rooms (big suites in the Casino Tower), Canada's first Gordon Ramsay Steak, a slide in the pool, and a marina of its own on the Fraser.
Book it forTrips through YVR without a car, and weekends planned around dinner reservations.
Skip it ifThe show you want needs an arena: the theatre seats 965.
Toronto's newest big casino hotel, by Woodbine Racetrack since 2023. Count four hundred rooms, a theatre that takes five thousand, sauna and steam beside the pool, and what the operator calls the widest slot choice in Canada. Free: parking and the Pearson shuttle.
Book it forFly-in weekends, a 5,000-seat concert, and slot players chasing the biggest selection in the country.
Skip it ifYou need space (standard rooms are 388 sq ft) or a view beyond the racetrack and the suburbs.
The biggest hotel on our list — 758 rooms in two towers, most looking straight across the river at Detroit. Downstairs: the 5,000-seat Colosseum (no seat past 225 feet) and a floor of 80-plus tables and over 2,000 slots. You stay downtown, not out by a highway exit.
Book it forArena concerts, a downtown weekend on the river, and anyone who wants a wide choice of rooms.
Skip it ifYour children want the pool. They can't use it: adults only.
Our newest stay sheet: Hard Rock opened in Ottawa on July 3, 2025 — in its words, a first fully integrated Hard Rock resort for Canada. One hundred and fifty rooms (22 suites), a Council Oak steakhouse, a concert hall for 2,200 and a 24-hour floor of 1,500-plus slots. Nobody under 19 gets past the lobby.

Skate, eat Ramsay, play — all on Enoch Cree Nation land
Just outside Edmonton on the west side, on Enoch Cree Nation land: 249 rooms, a large Alberta casino, two NHL-size rinks, a free bus to West Edmonton Mall and Canada's first Hell's Kitchen from Gordon Ramsay. Watch for the 18-storey tower under construction next door.
Book it forFamily hockey weekends near Edmonton, with dinner at a Ramsay restaurant and a large floor.
Skip it ifYou want the new rooms. The tower is aimed at 2027, so for now it's the existing hotel.
Near Orillia, on Rama First Nation land, a resort in the middle of a refit: rooms being redone since 2025, a new spa at ground level and three new places to eat, led by Atlas Steak and Fish. The draw is still the Entertainment Centre, 5,000-plus seats, which keeps big names coming north.
Book it forA concert road trip from the GTA, or a lake-country weekend that includes the tables.
Skip it ifYou don't have a car. Toronto is roughly two hours away by road and we found no transit plan.
The Tsuut'ina Nation owns this resort and runs it, on Nation land just over Calgary's south-west boundary. Book a west-facing room in the 178-room hotel (2014) for the Rockies, get tickets for the 2,500-seat Event Centre and eat at Little Chief. One catch: renovations lasting into 2027 have closed the pool.
