The stay score, explained

Checked against sources · page revised

The stay score answers one question: how good is a night here, door to door? Six parts of a trip each get a mark out of 10, the marks are weighted, and the total is shown out of 100.

The six parts, heaviest first

A worked example: marks of 9 for access and 8 for the other five parts give 9 × 25 + 8 × 75 = 825, or 82.5 out of 100, shown as 83 because we round halves up. If two hotels land on the same rounded score, the one that is easier to reach goes higher.

Which sources, in which order

Order of trust: (1) pages run by the hotel or its operator; (2) the hotel brand and provincial tourism boards; (3) Wikipedia, trade press and news reports — always credited on the sheet. Conflicting numbers are printed side by side; the Lac-Leamy Hilton's room count is the obvious example. Anything that isn't published is marked as not published rather than guessed. Check dates for this edition: hotel facts 23 October 2026; openings tracker 28 October 2026.

These are desk reviews: we did not stay at the hotels for this edition.

Money never enters the sum

No mark and no place on a list can be bought. Fees from casino affiliate programmes (online casino pages only) and from a hotel booking partner, where we have one, are covered on how we earn; none of them feeds into the numbers above.

When a sheet goes stale

Restaurants close, pools reopen, fees creep up. Seen something out of date? Send the page and a source to [email protected] — we check it, fix the sheet and change its date.
