#9 of 12 on our board
Calgary base with the mountains to the west
The Tsuut'ina Nation owns this resort and runs it, on Nation land just over Calgary's south-west boundary. Book a west-facing room in the 178-room hotel (2014) for the Rockies, get tickets for the 2,500-seat Event Centre and eat at Little Chief. One catch: renovations lasting into 2027 have closed the pool.

The short version
Owner and operator: the Tsuut'ina Nation. Casino: 2007. Hotel: six storeys, 178 rooms, officially opened 2 May 2014. You're a few minutes from downtown Calgary, Kananaskis Country about 30 — no other hotel in our guide sits so close to both a major city and the mountains.
Sleeping
West-facing rooms, the resort says, look toward the Rockies on clear days; the rest look over the city. Choose Standard King, Premier King, Standard Two Queen (pitched at families), King Suite or Presidential Suite. The hotel describes all of them as newly renovated.
Gaming
Floor: 32 tables and more than 975 slots across 84,000 sq ft. Hours: slots around the clock, tables 10 a.m. to 3 a.m.; baccarat, blackjack and other games in the high-limit rooms. Alberta age: 18. According to the casino, renovations continue in phases across 2026–2027. Winner's Edge, the province-wide Alberta programme, is the loyalty card.
On stage
Event Centre facts: room for 2,500, open to every age, an L-Acoustics sound system fitted in 2024, the year it was named Venue/Presenter of the Year at the YYC Music Awards. Its Concert Night Getaway packages two tickets with one night's stay: $329–$369.
Eating and drinking
The kitchen to book is Little Chief, where contemporary technique meets Indigenous tradition; the Calgary Herald and Avenue Magazine have both featured it. The Buffet (18+) serves nightly specials through December 31, 2026 and shuts for renovation in January 2027. Also here: a food truck, Eagle Street Eats (bannock with chili, Saskatoon berry dumplings, Indian tacos); the Stage Bar, with free acts at weekends; Blaze Bar & Grill; and the Eagle Bar next to the slots.
Downtime
No laps for now: the pool is shut for as long as the casino renovation runs. Meanwhile the hotel sends guests to Glenmore or Killarney, two municipal pools, at no charge. Still running: the gym (24 hours), the sauna and the outdoor hot tub.
Beyond the casino
Worth a half-day: a Buffalo Paddock Tour or the Tsuut'ina Museum, both through Grey Eagle Cultural Tours. Airport (YYC): half an hour to 45 minutes. Banff: roughly an hour. Parking is free; pets stay on a designated pet floor.
Our call
For a Calgary-plus-Rockies trip, this is the stay to plan around; for concerts, too. Until the works finish, pack for the hot tub, not for laps.
