Canada's casino age, province by province

Last updated · facts verified

There's no national casino age in Canada; each province picks its own. It's 19 in Ontario, British Columbia and New Brunswick and 18 in Alberta, Manitoba and Québec. That number always covers the gaming floor — and certain resorts extend it to their bars, their show venues or even the entire property. Run through the points below before you book.

Bring photo ID

Pack government-issued photo ID whichever province you're in. In British Columbia it's requested from every single guest — a rule since June 2023 — and checked against the restricted-entry list. Québec casinos may card anyone who looks younger than 25. A handful ask for more than one document: at Great Blue Heron in Ontario, the entry rules list a valid original government photo ID plus a second photo ID.

Self-exclusion

Each province runs a voluntary self-exclusion scheme that bans you from its casinos for a term you choose, and some terms can't be cut short. Thinking about it? Your province's helpline, in the table above, is free and confidential.
