Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto: our review
Last updated · facts verified
Great Canadian's Toronto resort opened in 2023 beside Woodbine Racetrack and is the region's newest big casino hotel. Expect 400 rooms, a theatre for up to 5,000, a pool with sauna and steam, free parking and a no-charge Pearson shuttle — plus what the operator calls the largest choice of slot machines anywhere in Canada.
Good for: Flying in for the weekend, catching an arena-size show, or working the country's biggest slot floor.
Think twice if: You want a view other than a racetrack and suburban Toronto, or more than 388 sq ft of room.
The short version
Casino Woodbine is gone; in its place, since 2023, stands Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto. Phase one of the casino opened June 20, and The Hotel at Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto took its first guests on August 1. Location: Etobicoke, beside Woodbine Racetrack, a short hop from Pearson. Scale is the pitch — the operator says nobody in Canada offers more slot machines.
Sleeping
All 400 rooms and suites date from the opening. Four standard types — Premium King, Racetrack King, Premium Two Queen, Racetrack Two Queen — share the same 388 sq ft; pick "Racetrack" to face the track, which Destination Toronto reckons nearly half the building does. Accessible rooms get 60-inch roll-in showers and grab bars. Need space? Corner Suites pair the king with a queen sofa bed, and 2-Bedroom Suites sleep six; both include a fridge and microwave. Every room has blackout curtains, bathrobes, NEST toiletries, a mini fridge and a coffee maker.
House rule: a guest aged 19-plus makes the booking. Kids may share the room but not the 19+ zones. Check-in from 4 p.m.; check-out by 11 a.m.
Gaming
When the doors opened in 2023, Global News tallied 4,800 slots and 145 table games. Just the high-limit room accounts for over 210 slots, 15 multi-game terminals for electronic poker and blackjack, and upward of 25 live tables. Neither the casino nor the hotel ever closes, and anyone 19 or older can sign up for Great Canadian Rewards at no cost.
On stage — and on the track
The Theatre seats up to 5,000 for a concert (1,500-plus at a gala), and Ticketmaster is the only ticket seller. Next door at Woodbine, most race days cost nothing to watch and nothing to park; the fall meet listed race dates through November 29, 2026.
Eating and drinking
Steak night is Copperhorn, set on the gaming floor itself. Casual — that's literally its name — is a gastropub with deep local craft-beer taps. Noodles come two ways: Chopsticks Noodlehouse, and Lobster Legend Noodle Bar, which mixes Teochew and Western dishes. Pizzaiolo bakes gourmet pies; the Food Hall gathers Mary Brown's Express, Tim Hortons and Noodlebox. Drinks: Northern Lights Bar (19+) for cocktails, and the all-ages Lobby Bar Grab & Go.
Downtime
Pool plus hot tub, sauna plus steam room, and a gym — that's the list. When it gets crowded, the front desk may hand out pool time slots.
Getting there
Pearson shuttle: free, 6 a.m.–noon and 3–9 p.m.; find it at post F3 (Terminal 1 arrivals) or by gates B and G (Terminal 3). Garage: enclosed, 3,800 spaces, self-park free; valet roughly $20 Monday to Thursday, $30 Friday to Sunday. Pets: two cats or dogs at most, under 50 lb, $49 a night plus a $49 one-off cleaning fee.
Before you go
Since July 23, 2026, about 100 security officers from Unifor Local 1090 have been locked out, and pickets stand at the property. Great Canadian's operating notice of October 2, 2026 says the hotel and casino are open around the clock, restaurant hours haven't changed, and vehicles pass the line at least once every three minutes. Look for updates before heading over.
Our call
The GTA's best bet for fly-in visitors, concert-goers and anyone who wants the maximum number of machines in one place. Rooms are modern and efficient rather than roomy — book the Corner Suite if elbow room counts.
