Gatineau's lakeside double act: a five-star Hilton wired straight into a Loto-Québec casino, about ten minutes by car from downtown Ottawa. Count on year-round heated pools indoors and out, Amerispa's 17 treatment rooms, an 1,100-seat theatre and upward of 1,400 slots — no Canadian property does spa-plus-casino more completely.
Good for: Spa-first getaways, or an Ottawa sightseeing base on the Gatineau side.
Think twice if: Someone under 18 hopes to see the casino, the theatre or a bar — all three are 18+.
The short version
The casino came first, in 1996. The Hilton, theatre and conference centre joined it in 2001, and together they make up the Hôtel-Casino du Lac-Leamy in Gatineau. Credentials: CITQ five stars every year since 2001, CAA/AAA Four Diamond since 2002. Loto-Québec runs the gaming; Hilton runs the hotel.
Sleeping
How many rooms? Depends who you ask — 349 per Tourisme Outaouais, or 312 rooms plus 37 suites per Bonjour Québec. Classic means two queens; Deluxe means a king, with a dressing table by the door. The top three floors are executive levels served by their own elevator. Suites: Junior, Murphy, One-bedroom. Standard kit everywhere — robe and slippers, 47-inch TV, mini fridge, safe, Crabtree & Evelyn amenities — and outlooks, the hotel says, across Lac Leamy and Lac de la Carrière.
Check-in 4 p.m., check-out 11 a.m., in-room dining 6:30 a.m.–10:30 p.m. daily.
Downtime — the reason to come
Lac-Leamy's best asset is the water. Pools and hot tubs, indoors and out, are heated 365 days a year. Amerispa has 17 treatment rooms; its two-hour Serenity package lists at $252 Monday through Thursday and $308 Friday through Sunday, and a treatment unlocks the pools, whirlpools, steam bath and sauna. The fitness centre costs nothing and never closes.
Gaming
1,400-plus slots, 48 tables, electronic terminals, a poker lounge and a Mise-o-jeu sports betting area. Hours: 9 a.m.–5 a.m. Monday to Thursday, nonstop Friday to Sunday. Québec sets the age at 18; look under 25 and staff may ask for government photo ID.
On stage and after dark
The Théâtre du Casino can be set for 1,100 in rows or 770 around cabaret tables, and apart from special events it's 18+. After the show, choose your pace: Bar 7 for live bands and DJs (Fridays and Saturdays from 7 p.m., plus Latin Thursdays), Bacchus for a scotch by the fire or a cigar in its dedicated room, or Aléa, the nightclub, from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. — dress the part.
Eating and drinking
Book Arôme for the occasion meal — seafood and grill above Lac de la Carrière, a three-course Experience menu, brunch on Sundays. Banco Bistro keeps costs down with rotisserie, pizza and steak; L'Instant plates Montréal smoked meat, pasta and smoked-meat poutine. TGV, the poolside snack bar, reopens next summer.
Getting there
Distances from the hotel: ByWard Market 4.1 km, Parliament 6.4 km, the Rideau Canal skateway 7.3 km — call it ten minutes by car. Ottawa's airport is around 25 minutes; the STO Rapibus stops at Lac-Leamy station. Outdoor parking is free, valet is paused until further notice, EV chargers are available, and pets up to 34 kg stay for a $50 fee.

Canada's calmest casino hotel, and the handiest for an Ottawa visit. Spa days are noticeably cheaper Monday to Thursday, so book then — and save the casino for a Friday, when the doors stay open till morning.
