Grey Eagle Resort & Casino: our review

Last updated · facts verified

Calgary's casino resort sits just over the city's south-west line on Tsuut'ina Nation land, and the Nation both owns and runs it. Its hotel (178 rooms, 2014) has west-facing rooms with a Rockies view; its 2,500-seat Event Centre books strong acts; and Little Chief ranks among the West's better casino kitchens. For now, though, renovation work that runs into 2027 has closed the pool.

Good for: Calgary concerts, and an easy jumping-off point for Kananaskis and Banff.
Think twice if: You need a pool this year — it's closed during renovation.

The short version

Grey Eagle belongs to, and is run by, the Tsuut'ina Nation. Casino: 2007. Hotel: six storeys, 178 rooms, grand opening May 2, 2014. Downtown Calgary is a few minutes away, Kananaskis Country about 30 — no other hotel in our guide sits so close to both a major city and the mountains.

Sleeping

West-facing rooms, the resort says, look toward the Rockies on clear days; the rest look over the city. Choose Standard King, Premier King, Standard Two Queen (pitched at families), King Suite or Presidential Suite. The hotel describes all of them as newly renovated.

Gaming

84,000 sq ft, 975-plus slots, 32 tables. Slots never stop; tables run 10 a.m.–3 a.m.; high-limit rooms cover blackjack, baccarat and more. Alberta age: 18. According to the casino, renovations continue in phases across 2026–2027. Winner's Edge, the province-wide Alberta programme, is the loyalty card.

On stage

The Event Centre seats 2,500, admits all ages, gained an L-Acoustics sound system in 2024 and took Venue/Presenter of the Year at the 2024 YYC Music Awards. Its Concert Night Getaway packages two tickets with one night's stay: $329–$369.

Eating and drinking

The kitchen to book is Little Chief, where contemporary technique meets Indigenous tradition; the Calgary Herald and Avenue Magazine have both featured it. The Buffet (18+) serves nightly specials through December 31, 2026 and shuts for renovation in January 2027. Elsewhere on site: Blaze Bar & Grill, the Eagle Bar beside the slots, the Stage Bar with free weekend entertainment, and the Eagle Street Eats truck — Indian tacos, chili and bannock, Saskatoon berry dumplings.

Downtime

No laps for now: the pool is shut for as long as the casino renovation runs. As a stand-in, hotel guests get free entry to two City of Calgary pools, Killarney and Glenmore. The outdoor hot tub, the sauna and a round-the-clock gym carry on as normal.

Beyond the casino

Grey Eagle Cultural Tours offer experiences on Tsuut'ina Nation — the Tsuut'ina Museum, a Buffalo Paddock Tour. Calgary International: 30–45 minutes. Banff: about an hour. Parking is free; pets stay on a designated pet floor.

Our call

Best casino hotel for a Calgary or Rockies itinerary, and a strong concert base. Until the works finish, pack for the hot tub, not for laps.

Common questions

Is Grey Eagle's pool open?

Not until the casino renovation is finished. Meanwhile, staying guests get free swims at two municipal pools, Killarney and Glenmore.

Will I see the mountains from my room at Grey Eagle?

Possibly — the resort says some rooms face west toward the Rockies, which show on clear days.

Is the Grey Eagle Event Centre 18+?

No — the Event Centre is all ages. Only the casino is 18+.
